Pasta and books! What else can you ask for?!
Magic Town was in Italy this week for the annual Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
On Sunday, Magic Town co-founder and Mindshapes‘ chief commercial officer Christian Dorffer spoke on a panel at Tools of Change. He talked about the intersection of books, games and online communities for children.
Christian also had a fun dinner with Warren Buckleitner of Children’s Technology Review, Chris Meade of if:book and Cristina Mussinelli of the Italian Publishers Association.
And finally, congratulations to the winner of the first Bologna Ragazzi Digital Prize, “Dans Mon Rêve,” (In My Dream) e-Toiles Editions, France. Special mention also went to “The Numberlys” by Moonbot Studios, USA; and “Quem soltou o pum?” Companhia das Letras, Brasil.

3… 2…1… blast off! After months of preparation, Magic Town has launched in Beta. The first virtual world based on picture books and stories for young children is live!
Right now you can register for Magic Town using your Facebook login. Registering by email will be coming soon, as will lots of other features, such as adding profiles for more than one child, selecting the character houses and stories they see, and getting personalised reports about how your child uses Magic Town. Not too far down the road, you will also be able to use Magic Town on your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
If you register now, you’ll be able to create a child profile and dive into Magic Town. After signing in, your child will meet Magic Town’s guide Max and Louis the Storyteller who will present a new story every day. As your child visits Magic Town, he or she will see new characters’ houses pop up across the landscape. These houses hold the stories and accompanying games.
Everyone will have temporary access to a free story every day, as well as to the houses where Aesop’s fables and Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales live. But… if you subscribe, you’ll be able to keep the free story each day plus get full access to all of the stories in Magic Town.
So sign in to Magic Town. Visit character’s houses. Explore stories. And please let us know what you and your children think by contacting us at contact@magictown.com. We’d look forward to hearing from you.
See you soon in Magic Town… Where Stories Live.

This week Magic Town is at the annual Bologna Children’s Book Fair. It’s the biggest annual gathering of children’s publishers in the world. Deals get done. Soon-to-be-released books make their debut. It’s kind of like a reunion for everyone who works in children’s book publishing across the globe.
So what is Magic Town doing there? Quite a bit, really.
On Sunday, Magic Town co-founder and Mindshapes’ chief commercial officer Christian Dorffer is speaking on at the Tools of Change digital pre-conference on a panel about the intersection of books, games and online communities for children.
During the week, Ramez Mikdashi, our director of business development, will be meeting our existing publishing partners (whose books live in Magic Town) and reaching out to new partners as well.
And we’ll be stopping by publishers’ stands throughout the fair, saying hello to old friends and new ones, and enjoying the festival atmosphere. We might even find time for a plate of pasta and a glass of wine…
Stay tuned for a wrap up of our trip.
